Following comments on the North Coast Times/Weekender Facebook page about what readers wanted the caravan park in Mindarie to become, the City of Wanneroo released a statement reiterating its plans.

It said the City was considering campsites aimed at tourists and nature-loving locals as one option, as well as mobile home and caravan facilities.

Mrs Roberts said the City was keen to develop a tourism vision for the area and would welcome community feedback.

‘With a diverse landscape of beautiful coastline, natural bushland and national parks, the City of Wanneroo is an ideal place for visitors to stay,’ she said.

‘However, with many parcels of land within the City under the care and control of the State Government, the City has asked the government to consider whether any other areas in the northern metropolitan area may also be suitable for tourism-based accommodation.’

The caravan park has been closed to casual visitors since December 2012, and the leases for the two remaining long-term tenants will expire in November.

Several readers posted on Facebook that they wanted to see it remain a caravan park and others said they would be against any high-end holiday accommodation.

Quinns Rocks resident Nat Sangalli started a petition calling for the council to urgently upgrade and open the caravan park to cater for short-term tourists with campsites, caravan sites and chalet accommodation.
