Mary Maker said the pain of losing her brother had not lessened in the year since his death but the community support had been the family’s strength.

‘There was that much support and love when it happened, you could see the unity,’ she said.

‘It was a disaster, it was a heartbreak for the community and they gave us the strength to push on.’

A memorial service was held at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Malaga on Sunday afternoon, where those who knew William remembered his life and thanked the community.

Luke David Taylor (24), of Quinns Rocks, has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge and will face trial early next month.
