Clarkson Detectives are investigating incidents that occurred between 1pm and 1.30pm on Friday, July 18, at Ocean Keys Shopping Centre.

‘One of the males first attempted to steal a handbag from a shopping trolley while two women were finishing their lunch in the food court,’ Sergeant Graham Teather said.

‘The ladies became aware of the male’s presence and he quickly made an excuse for his actions before moving away.’

Sgt Teather said one man was then seen loitering around a child activity workshop outside K-Mart.

‘He placed a bag he was carrying inside an unattended trolley while appearing to scope out other trolleys,’ he said.

‘A short time later his accomplice, who was pushing a trolley with a child inside, moves in to cause a distraction and the male reaches into the child seat of a nearby trolley where a child sitting in the seat.

‘Unable to grab the purse with his first attempt the male then reaches in again, this time pushing the child to the side slightly so he can get the purse and quickly places it in his pocket.

‘He then returns to the trolley he was previously standing near removes a handbag from the trolley, places it inside his bag and walks out of the shopping centre.’

Police released CCTV images of two men who they believe can help with inquiries.
