Petition pushed to reopen road for businesses

Councillor Bob Smithson presented the 235-signature petition at the February 4 Wanneroo City Council meeting. He said the petition asked the City to examine how the closure was approved, as the consequences were ‘financially devastating to local businesses’ and inconvenient to drivers.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the road reopened in January after she and infrastructure director Dennis Blair met business operators.

Last month the Times reported that Built Environs had closed part of the road and created a small detour along Caribbean Circuit while it built street-front commercial tenancies and 10 apartment units on the corner of Ocean Keys Boulevard.

At the time, an Ocean Keys Shopping Centre spokeswoman said the closure was necessary for the builder to access the site, and they had advertised to keep it closed until October.
