Clarkson police focus on shops and school security this Christmas

SHOPLIFTING and school security are front of mind for Clarkson Police this festive season.

Senior Sergeant Stephen Foley said local officers were targeting Clarkson and Butler shops in particular.

“This time of year, we do see an increase in shoplifting,” he said.

“We are running some operations at Ocean Keys Shopping Centre and Butler shops to catch people who are stealing.”

Sgt Foley said officers made some arrests during target patrols last week, and urged people to secure their valuables while at the shops.

“Keep an eye out for your purses and handbags and mobile phones because they do also get stolen out of shopping trolleys,” he said.

Sgt Foley said schools were often targeted by burglars and trespassers during school holidays, and asked people to watch out for anything suspicious.

“With the schools now closing for their long summer break, if people notice any suspicious activities at schools, report that to police,” he said.

“People shouldn’t be hanging around school grounds or on school premises during the school holidays.”
