Police hunt for arsonists after $500k damage

POLICE are investigating a house fire in Clarkson yesterday that was deliberately lit and appealing for more witnesses.

Reported at 3.20pm on March 25, the fire had already burnt through about 80 per cent of the Bateson Heights home according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

A DFES spokeswoman said four appliances from the Butler, Duncraig, Joondalup and Osborne Park fire and rescue crews attended.

"By 3.54pm the fire was under control; by 4.39pm the fire was extinguished," she said.

"The cause was deliberate (and) 95 per cent of the house is damaged."

Arson Squad detective Senior Constable Brendan Kelly said they had not yet laid charges.

"No-one was injured but the house is almost totally destroyed," he said, adding the damage was "upwards of $500,000".
