NORTHERN suburbs police officers have stepped up patrols around popular beaches to deter thefts from vehicles and beachfronts.

Clarkson Senior Sergeant Stephen Foley said the patrols were part of a North West Metropolitan District strategy with officers giving beaches and carparks extra attention, particularly on hot days.

“We’ve got a beach strategy in place from Scarborough right through to Yanchep,” he said.

“We’ve got extra patrols of those areas during summer.”

Sgt Foley said so far the station had not received many reports of thefts from those areas, though there had been reports in other sub-districts.
