Mr Murphy is serving his second term chairing the committee after a four-year break during which Alex La Corte held the position.
The incoming president said he joined the branch when he retired in 2002, a year after it started, and while the national body lobbies federal and state governments on behalf of seniors, the individual branches hold more social events.
‘We meet up at Connolly Community Centre at 10am on the second Tuesday of each month,’ Mr Murphy said.

Mr La Corte said one of the highlights of his tenure had been the 10th anniversary celebrations at Hillarys Yacht Club.
The branch often hosts guest speakers at its meetings, including the Arthritis Foundation’s Tony Walker on September 10, and runs an annual mystery car rally.
The next outing will be a visit to WA Museum on September 17 to see the Secrets of the Afterlife exhibition.
Members come from across the northern suburbs, between Woodvale, Butler and Wanneroo, and there is also a branch based in Hillarys.
