Quinns Baptist College will stage High School Musical as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations.

CELEBRATING its 20th anniversary this year, Quinns Baptist College in Mindarie has planned several events.

Secondary principal Tel Williams said the school started in 1996 with about 80 students from Pre-Primary to Year 7, and now had more than 900 from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12.

“2016 is a significant year in the life of the Quinns Baptist College community, as staff, students and families – both past and present – reflect on the past 20 years,” he said.

“Twenty years down the track, Quinns Baptist College sees itself as an integral part of the local community that continues to uphold its commitment to provide an excellent and affordable private education to the students and families.

“As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations, a special birthday assembly was held to view a reflections video and unveil a college honour board.

“A new sign with a spectacular eagle which depicts the school motto ‘On Eagle’s Wings’ has also been created and erected.

“Further celebrations this year include a school production in May where the students will be performing High School Musical, a great race and the annual school fete and open day in August.”

Production director Melissa Elliott said the musical was based on “arguably the most successful Disney Channel film”.

High School Musical is still as loved by audiences today as it was in 2006,” she said.

“As the film celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, it seemed only fitting that Quinns Baptist College choose this iconic musical to present for its third drama production.

“With its catchy songs and loveable characters, High School Musical will be performed over three days in May with four shows in total.

“A cast of 65 high school students ranging from Years 8 to 12 will showcase their talents on the stage.”

Mrs Elliott said they anticipated a successful show following the 2015 production of Hairspray watched by more than 2000 people.

She said the cast had worked hard over the past seven months and shown plenty of dedication and professionalism.

“We have 15 student crew members who have been working tirelessly to manoeuvre our fabulous set, and a handful of committed staff members who have made this production possible,” she said.
