Quinns Rocks foreshore near completion

Staff ReporterNorth Coast Times

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said coastal protection works had gone well, with sand nourishment north of the middle groyne complete.

She said the rock revetment was almost complete, maintenance had started on groyne one and the sand bags would be complete in August.

‘Limestone retaining wall works are progressing, scheduled for completion in July,’ she said.

‘The contractors have been taking measures during the recent stormy weather to protect the completed sandbag/rock revetment, so they have held up very well.’

Transport Minister Dean Nalder visited the Quinns Rocks foreshore with Wanneroo MLA Paul Miles and Mrs Roberts on Tuesday.

‘This is a major project in terms of the engineering skills involved and after so many years of coastal erosion at Quinns Rocks, it’s great to see action being taken to protect this area,’ Mr Miles said.

At the June council meeting, a co-founder of the ‘Save our Foreshore Quinns Beach’ Facebook group Nat Sangalli asked if the City had made any progress on steps to access the beach over the rock wall, but City’s infrastructure director Dennis Blair said it had not.

She also asked if there had been any budget consideration for the car park because heavy machinery had been ‘chewing it all up’. Mr Blair said it had, with the council due to consider its 2014-15 budget on July 8.
