Mark DonaldsonNorth Coast Times

A MAN was fined in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday over a 2016 incident in which his mastiff-great dane cross attacked his female housemate in the back yard of their Quinns Rocks home.

Magistrate Michelle Pontifex fined Peter James Breese $1800 after he pleaded guilty to his dog’s involvement in the July 14, 2016 attack.

City of Wanneroo prosecutor Sam De Vita told the court the woman had gone out to the yard where the dog was chained up, while Breese was away from the Buffet Ramble home.

But the animal managed to pounce on the victim and pin her to the ground while biting her.

She was treated in Joondalup Health Campus before being transferred to Sir Charles Gairdner hospital with facial injuries.

Mr De Vita presented images of the victim’s injuries to Magistrate Pontifex.

The court heard Breese paid the woman’s ambulance costs.

Magistrate Pontifex told Breese it would have been “quite a scary thing” to happen to the victim.

“As an owner, you are at all times responsible,” she said.

She also ordered he pay a $200 fine for having an unregistered animal.
