Quotes for Two Rocks fire station extensions too costly

HIGH costs have prompted staff to recommend Wanneroo council decline all tenders to build an ablution block and meeting room at a fire station.

A July 12 report said the City allocated $225,000 for the additions to Two Rocks Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade’s station, but the three tenders received varied between almost $430,000 and $1.13 million.

“None of the tenders were within the budget amount that we set aside – why such a difference between what we budgeted and what it looks like it might cost?” Cr Sabine Winton asked at the briefing session.

Assets director Harminder Singh said the tender documents provided a layout of the building footprint and the tenderers made submissions on what they could provide.

If the council declines the tenders, staff would review the scope of works and seek competitive quotes to build the extension in 2016-17.
