The 479-signature petition from the Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association urged the City to continue talks with the Yanchep Beach Joint Venture and associated developers in a bid to develop two senior-sized ovals in Yanchep.
At the March 31 meeting, the council considered comments about the proposed Charnwood Reserve redevelopment from the community consultation process.
The park, located near the Phil Renkin Recreation Centre, currently has a junior- sized active reserve, a small sports building, a playground, a skate park and a full-sized basketball-netball court.
In 2013, the council called for staff to investigate design options for the senior-sized playing field and community facilities.
A preliminary concept plan was approved following meetings with Yanchep Districts Junior Football Club, Yanchep Redhawks Football Club, Yanchep Little Athletics Club and the Yanchep Cricket Club.
The City received 309 community responses in 2013, with 49 per cent considered supportive, 47 per cent not supportive and the remaining 14 per cent unsure.
Responses that backed the plans but believed it to be for the wrong location were listed as not supporting the proposal.
A report to the council last week said at best, the survey could be considered inconclusive.
It is evident from the consideration of the survey results and petition that the community is not supportive of the proposal to develop a senior-sized active reserve at Charnwood Park as a replacement for the proposed development at the Yanchep Active Open Space, it said.
The report said that the community was in favour of appropriate development at the Two Rocks site. A further report is expected this month.
