Residents welcome marina upgrade

We know that people come to live in these places for the lifestyle, he said.

Two Rocks residents Brendan and Jazmina Chamberlain were launching their boat to drop cray pots when the minister announced funding for upgrades on April 23.

Mr Chamberlain said improving the facilities was positive for Two Rocks, as he often decided not to go out on the water if the one-lane ramp was too busy.

Ive seen five or six boats lined up, so I go home, he said.

Having this extra lane means people can be getting out while others are getting in.

Mr Chamberlain said he hoped proper line markings in the parking area would prevent fights that had been happening between drivers.

Business owner John Young said it was good news for the community and its growing population.

What people come to Two Rocks for is the ocean and the boating and the lifestyle, he said.

Its been left as a sleeping giant ever since Atlantis (Marine Park) closed (in the 1980s). The Government and other people are starting to realise the potential of this place.

Mr Young said the six-month closure through the 2013-14 recreational fishing season had been a hassle and congestion at the ramp often caused chaos in the parking area.

Department of Transport acting coastal infrastructure general manager Donna West said they had done studies and trailer counts at the marina since it took over management last November.

The busiest day was December 27 there were 137 trailers in the car park (and) between 7am and 8am, there were 89 trailers here, she said.

An average weekend would be about 40 per day. The busiest time is about 5 to 6 in the morning.

There would be a lot more at Hillarys, but Hillarys has six lanes.

Ms West said the existing car park had 33 formal trailer bays, and other informal bays.

After this work, there will be 99 formal trailer parking bays, she said.

We will improve the layout of how the car park operates.

Acumen Development Solutions principal Nick Perrignon, whose company is developing Atlantis Beach estate, welcomed the investment.

It ties in nicely with the freshening up of the town centre thats being done by Adrian Fini and Atlantis Beach, he said.

It will answer a lot of locals concerns to have really good traffic flow around the boat ramp.
