POLICE are investigating a suspicious fire that burned close to homes in Ridgewood on Australia Day.

According to the Arson Squad, the fire started about 11.45pm on January 26 in an area bounded by Kilkee Street, Tinglewood Boulevard and the rail line.

A number of nearby residents saw the flames and Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended and were able to extinguish the fire.

Strike Force Vulcan investigators believe the fire, which burnt through about 30m by 50m of scrub close to houses, was deliberately lit.

Police have asked anyone with information or dash cam footage from the area around the time of the fire to make a report online at crimestopperswa.com.au or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference number 8777.
