Road widening on cards

A report on the City of Wanneroo’s February 2 meeting agenda recommends the council award a contract of almost $6.5 million to RJ Vincent and Co to widen the road.

Last week’s briefing session papers said the project would create a dual carriageway on about 4.8km of the two-lane road between Neerabup Road and Lukin Drive.

The City invited tenders last November and December for the 26-week contract, which is proposed to take place between February and August.

Eleven companies submitted tenders, with RJ Vincent and Co ranked the highest overall, although its price ranked seventh.

“The highest ranked tenderer did not provide the lowest tendered lump-sum price, but provided the tender evaluation team with the confidence that they would provide a professional level of service and quality product, thereby providing the best value for money,” the report said.

It said 10 people attended a public information session on November 4 at Gumblossom Community Centre in Quinns Rocks.

Concerns raised by residents there related to possible structural damage to adjacent buildings during construction, co-ordination with the Mitchell Freeway extension works, increased noise levels, reduced safety and removal of vegetation.

The project is expected to cost more than $8.4 million, with the City needing to allocate another $4 million in 2016-17.
