Seven-storey apartment complex approved for Clarkson

A SEVEN-STOREY apartment complex in Clarkson has been approved by the North West Metropolitan Development Assessment Panel.

The application by T Design and Development on behalf of Newstar Development Group had previously been deferred twice by the panel to address design issues.

The City of Wanneroo had recommended refusing the $6 million mixed use development on Sarasota Pass, which comprises 31 units, shops, an office, parking bays and a rooftop garden, because of inadequate landscaping and a discrepancy between plan drawings.

But at today’s meeting, the panel instead supported the alternative recommendation for approval subject to 13 conditions.

They added another condition requiring revised plans be submitted to the City that increased the ceiling height, moved the upper level stairwell and increased the window size at either end of the adjacent corridor to provide more natural light, and provided more landscaping at the corners of Sarasota Pass and Amazon Lane.

The discrepancy was resolved as an error on behalf of the applicant and panel members’ main concerns related to the need for more natural light within the building and larger landscaping sections on the streetscape.

Cr Frank Cvitan said there was “more room for improvement” in the design and Cr Russell Driver agreed the decision would create an opportunity to address outstanding issues.
