Shire of Gingin to build Changing Places facility in Guilderton

THE Shire of Gingin will start building a Changing Places facility in Guilderton this month.

Shire President David Roe said changing Places were “secure, clean facilities for people with disability who need space and assistance to use ablutions when out and about in the community”.

The Guilderton facility will be a freestanding, steel-framed, Colorbond-clad building at the bottom of Edward Street next to the foreshore car park.

Cr Rowe said the builder, Daves Property Improvement, would start construction on April 24, with the estimated completion date on June 30.

“It is expected there will be some disruption to the foreshore area for the duration of construction, which may consist of area closures for public safety and possibly some parking bays being blocked next to the building site,” Cr Rowe said.

“The cost of the Guilderton Changing Places facility is $121,000 – the Disability Services Commission has provided $110,000 grant funding toward the cost, with the Shire providing the balance.”

Introduced in mid-2015, the $2 million program to establish a network of Changing Places across WA is a collaboration between the Disability Services Commission, the WA Local Government Association and National Disability Services WA.
