The City of Wanneroo hosted the event ahead of National Volunteer Week, with more than 80 members of the Quinns Rocks, Wanneroo and Two Rocks volunteer bushfire brigades and Wanneroo Fire Support.

‘We are so appreciative of our volunteers, who give up their own time to serve others,’ Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said.

‘Not only did our volunteers respond to more than 230 fires during summer, they also attended numerous community events to promote the work they do and encourage the community to prepare for fires.’

Mrs Roberts presented four volunteer excellence awards, to Ricky Southgate and Troy Cole, from Quinns Rocks Bush Fire Brigade, John Leahy, from the Wanneroo brigade, and Wanneroo Fire Support’s Eric Holst, who was unable to attend.

Other functions throughout the year will acknowledge volunteers from community and conservation, heritage and library and emergency services.
