Foundation principal Gary Harris has welcomed movement on the ground for Atlantis Beach Baptist College on Breakwater Drive.
The school is due to open on July 18, pending registration with the Department of Education Services, and would cater for Pre-Kindergarten to Year 8 students initially.
“The college will offer Year 9, 10 and 11 in 2017 and Year 12 in 2018,” Mr Harris said.
“The future-focused |college will offer a dynamic environment to meet the needs of students, families and the community.
“The college will have a respectful environmental focus to develop in the college community a passion for sustainability, social responsibility and citizenship.
“We are building a school of the future with a variety of buildings – modular high spec and traditional designs, combined with the latest IT capabilities, as well as online learning and virtual classrooms.
“The college has a strong pastoral care program that provides a framework of encouragement, enabling students to recognise and use their abilities with compassion, character and confidence.
“The vibrant co-curricular program will give students an opportunity to learn new skills, take on leadership roles and develop self-confidence with the opportunity to use their personal talents and abilities to serve the community.
“I see this as a wonderful opportunity to serve the needs of a growing community and provide more options in education for families in the area, some of which are travelling large distances each day to educate their children.”
Mr Harris said it would be the first school north of Butler to offer Year 11 and 12 to children in the area.
