TAKING up photography helps people “see things differently”, according to Danny O’Loghlen.
The Butler resident, who runs Danny’s DeTours, said he has discovered many unusual sites while looking for photo opportunities.
He “stumbled upon” the historic lime kilns in Orchestra Shell Reserve, Neerabup on one of his detours and said it was ideal for a range of photography styles, from portrait and bird to history and astrophotography.

READ NOW“There’s so much to like about just this one location,” he said.
“It’s great for beginners and intermediates (and) five minutes from home.
“Another place I don’t think gets enough recognition in a photography sense is the national park; Yanchep National Park is awesome.”
Mr O’Loghlen said the birdlife and historic buildings at the national park offered plenty of opportunities for pictures, and the coast north of Mindarie Marina was also great to explore with a camera.
However, he said people could start snapping pictures closer to home.
“Look around your own backyard first; walk around your own yard, block, suburb,” he said.
“It’s just a matter of slowing down. Once you take up photography, you see things differently.
“It’s a good creative outlet.”
