PROFESSIONAL hockey players joined juniors at the new Warwick Hockey Centre during the school holidays.
Recently retired Kookaburra and five-time International Player of the Year Jamie Dwyer, who has set up a merchandise store at the facility, ran three clinics for Hockey WA juniors aged six to 14.
Dwyer said it had been “better than expected”.
“It was pretty late notice when I announced them, so I thought we’d get maybe 10, 15, 20 kids max but we had 50 kids come down each day,” he said.
“We had some Kookaburras and Hockeyroos come down and I also took down my Olympic gold medal and World Cup medal and the kids loved it.
“The weather was perfect too.”
The City of Joondalup, along with Hockey WA and Whitford Hockey Club, will officially open the centre on July 2.
