Alkimos Baptist College principal Kieran Graham said the specialist program would start in 2016 for Year 7 and 8 students.

"This program will allow students the chance to delving completely into the world of robotics, including construction, design, programming, circuitry and electronics," he said.

One of the focuses of the program is to encourage young girls to be interested in robotics as well as engineering.

"We currently have a number of young girls interested in joining."
