Deputy Mayor Laura Gray said the City would get a detailed design for the community centre, which would include an observation tower for the club to use, in 2013-14.

Cr Gray said the first stage of construction would start the following financial year, with stages two and three to follow each year thereafter.

‘The tower is currently listed for construction in 2016-17 as a part of the extension of the existing building to accommodate the Quinns Mindarie Community Centre,’ she said.

‘Funding applications to Lotterywest and the Department of Sport and Recreation will be progressed in 2013.’

Cr Gray said the City had consulted the club, as well as groups including the Quinns Rocks Playgroup, Mindarie Playgroup, Quinns FC Soccer Club and the Quinns Rocks Caravan Park about the proposed community centre.

Community consultation took place in 2010, and in 2012 the council approved the sale of a Fowey Loop block in Mindarie for $1.85 million, with funds expected to go towards this expansion.

Last month, the Times reported on a call from QMSLS Club’s surf sports director to have a basic observation tower installed close to the beach.
