Ten men charged with escaping from custody after alleged Greenough jailbreak

POLICE have charged 10 men with escaping from lawful custody after an alleged mass breakout at Greenough Regional Prison on Tuesaday.

Six of the men, ranging in age from 21 to 35, will appear in Geraldon Magistrates Court on August 2.

Two men, aged 25 and 35, will appear on August 9 while a further two, aged 18 and 22, will appear on August 23.

A 22-year-old woman from Karloo has been charged with aiding an escapee and she is due to appear in the Geraldton Magistrates Court August 2.

The alleged escape occurred during a disturbance at the maximum security Greenough Regional Prison, which houses men and women, near Geraldton on Tuesday afternoon.

WA Police sent 150 officers to the area on Wednesday to search for the men.
