Tending the Tracks event to educate four-wheel drive enthusiasts on protecting the environment

Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

NORTHERN Agricultural Catchments Council will hold a two-day event, Tending the tracks, in Jurien Bay this month about off-road driving.

The January 13-14 event will look at community-based management of a coastal off-road environment, with the area north of Perth a hotspot for off-road vehicle activity.

NACC is collaborating with the Conservation Council (WA), Track Care WA and the WA 4WD Association on the initiative, which aims to protect coastal environments.

Saturday’s program will include a field day between Guilderton and Jurien Bay with guides and coast care groups accompanying participants on site visits.

After a camp-out at the Jurien Bay Sport and Recreation Ground, there will be a forum day and workshops on Sunday to identify management priorities and four-wheel-drive-based citizen science monitoring projects.

Participants can attend all or part of the event, which is funded through the Federal Government’s National Landcare Program.
