Clarkson Detectives Senior Sergeant Gary Saunders said his team recovered the 5.5m custom-built boat, stolen on June 8 and worth $52,000, at a Clipstone Parkway property in Butler the following weekend.
‘The boat had the ID numbers and (trailer registration) plate removed,’ Sgt Saunders said. ‘The boat had been repainted (allegedly) in order to disguise its identity.’
Sgt Saunders said detectives found the number plate from the trailer cut into pieces at the property, as well as a fire extinguisher, maritime radio and anchor lights.
Detectives charged a Quinns Rocks man (24) with stealing the boat, and he is due in Joondalup Magistrates Court tomorrow.
They charged a Butler man (26) with receiving stolen property, he is due to reappear at the same court on July 9.
Sgt Saunders said a third man (23) of Beldon would reappear on July 9, charged with receiving stolen property possessing methamphetamine and a prohibited weapon.
‘We are alleging that he assisted the man from Butler with re-identifying the boat,’ he said.
The detective said the men were released on bail following their first court appearances.
The owner of the boat was happy it had been recovered.
