Two Rocks and Yanchep residents given mixed NBN signals

TELECOMMUNICATIONS representatives have given residents conflicting advice about what technology to rely on in emergencies.

At this month’s Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association meeting, NBN Co WA manager Jane McNamara said people should ensure they have a mobile phone for emergencies.

“The NBN will not work in a power outage if you are on a fixed line network,” she said.

“We need to encourage that everyone have a back-up, fully-charged mobile.

“Emergency services are fully aware of NBN not working in a power outage.”

Resident Peter Stainthorpe said that contradicted comments made by Telstra WA area manager Boyd Brown earlier during the October 16 meeting, that people should not rely on a mobile network.

“Mobile phones should not be relied on in an emergency,” Mr Brown said.

“It’s nice to have; we need to stay in touch (but) the hard and fast is it won’t always work everywhere.”
