TEDDY bears and cuddly toys joined children in classrooms at Two Rocks Primary School this month for a fundraiser.

Year 6 students hosted the fundraiser for the Free the Bears organisation to support sanctuaries in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam that rehabilitate rescued moon bears from cruel treatment.

The school raised $381.55 during the September 7 event to support student Tess Powell’s family, who have been involved in fundraising and volunteering for Free the Bears.

Perth-based Mary Hutton founded the organisation in 1995 after seeing a TV program about bears held in small cages and ‘milked’ for their bile, which was used in traditional medicines.
