Views on a room sought

Wanneroo councillors will tonight consider requests to extend the clubrooms at Oldham to include a multi-purpose room that could cost about $250,000.

At last week’s briefing session, the City’s program services manager Shane Spinks said clubs that used Oldham Reserve approached the City in March, although the idea was first brought up almost two decades ago.

‘This has been on the agenda since 1995,’ he said.

Mr Spinks said the facilities at Oldham had a high level of use and clubs were now proposing to contribute to the cost.

The staff report recommended the council incorporate that multi-purpose facility into its design for changerooms at the long-awaited Yanchep ovals, rather than at Oldham.

‘It doesn’t include a 100sqm multi-purpose function room at the moment,’ Mr Spinks said.

‘It can be accommodated without any impact on that project’s timeframes.’

Community development director Fiona Bentley said the design process would take place this financial year, and the City could adjust its capital works budget for the next financial year.

Mrs Bentley said the council could seek funds to provide the facility at both places, and Mayor Tracey Roberts indicated she might move to defer the report to give clubs the opportunity to comment.
