Volunteer firefighters showcase station at open day

VOLUNTEER firefighters will open their station doors to the community this month.

Quinns Rocks Bush Fire Brigade and the Wanneroo Fire Support Brigade will hold a station open day at their Clarkson base on Saturday, August 31 from 10am to 3pm.

Support brigade Lieutenant Sally Hawkins said people could talk to volunteers about what it was like to be on the fire ground, learn how to prepare homes for the upcoming bush fire season or apply to become a volunteer .

“There will be fire fighting appliances on display including heavy vehicles, light tankers and the incident control vehicle,” she said.

“Bushy the Bear and Squirty the fire truck will be there.”

There will also be a sausage sizzle for gold coin donations, raffles and live displays throughout the day at the station on Hidden Valley Retreat, Clarkson.
