WANNEROO and Clarkson police station phone numbers are being used to scam callers out of money.
District police put out an alert out Wednesday on social media.
“Joondalup District has now received several reports that the caller ID for both Clarkson and Wanneroo police stations are being used by telephone scammers,” the post said.
“The scam involves the owing of money and the Australian Tax Office and scammers can often threaten innocent victims by claiming they will be arrested if they do not make payments.
“Using legitimate phone numbers is a tactic used to appear genuine.”
Police encouraged people to spread the word to “your friends and family, particularly those who may be especially vulnerable to this crime”.
