Wanneroo Council endorses advocacy fact sheets in $80m funding bids

Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

WANNEROO Council endorsed several advocacy fact sheets that it will use to lobby for more than $80 million funding.

One of the fact sheets outlines a northern coastal suburbs swimming pool project, and the City will seek $40 million to build a 50m outdoor pool, potentially in Alkimos.

The City will also seek $30 million for the Alkimos regional open space, $6.5 million to upgrade Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex in Madeley and $5 million for the Butler north facility.

The agribusiness fact sheet will seek $200,000 to investigate setting up an agri-precinct, and said the value of production from Carabooda, Nowergup and Neerabup was about $120 million a year.

The freight fact sheet seeks $300,000 for the first stage of a study, and calls for prioritisation of the Muchea to Neerabup road freight link and Whiteman Yanchep highway.

The City will continue its road and rail advocacy with a focus on extending the Mitchell Freeway to Romeo Road.

While the fact sheet acknowledged both major federal political parties had pledged $107.5 million for the $215 million project, it said a State Government commitment was yet to be announced.

The council also supported a funding application through the Building Better Regions Fund to upgrade Flynn Drive as a strategic link to Neerabup, which is expected to cost $14 million.
