WANNEROO council has rejected a request for speed humps at a Ridgewood roundabout, saying hoon behaviour is a police issue.

The council received a petition in May asking it to install speed humps at the intersection of Hinchinbrook Avenue, Ridgewood Boulevard and Fedamore Approach.

At their October meeting, councillors unanimously supported a staff recommendation not to approve the request.

“Administration has contacted WA Police regarding hoon behaviour at the intersection of Ridgewood Boulevard and Hinchinbrook Avenue and requested increased police patrol and action against unsafe driving behaviour in the area,” the October 11 report said.

The council agreed to ask staff to deploy an electronic variable message sign in the area for the next six months, with the message ‘Hooning is an offence. Police are targeting the area. Report suspicious behaviour 1800 333 000’.
