THE Wanneroo council declined all tenders for a Quinns Rocks shark barrier last month because price submissions exceeded the budget allocation.
During a confidential session on July 19, councillors unanimously agreed to decline the tenders for “not achieving a value for money outcome”.
They agreed to increase the budget from $300,000 including $200,000 from the State Government to an undisclosed amount and authorise administration to invite quotations.
The decision also authorised staff to award a contract for a modified shark barrier, or one of a different size, “provided the total project capital cost is less than the revised project”.
The council asked the mayor to write to the Premier for more funding so the project could still be delivered in 2016-17.
In May, the City of Joondalup council approved a $910,000 tender from Eco Shark Barrier to supply, install and maintain the Sorrento enclosure.
