Western Power, City poles apart

Staff ReporterNorth Coast Times

Last year, the City of Wanneroo started $560,000 worth of upgrades on the roads, including installing a roundabout at that junction. While the work is not complete, a power pole protruding from tarmac has raised some eyebrows.

The City’s infrastructure director Dennis Blair said they were waiting for Western Power to relocate the pole.

‘The City has completed the road-widening at the Brazier Road/Lagoon Drive intersection and is waiting on Western Power,’ he said.

‘Once that happens the City will complete the road works, including asphalting.’

Western Power spokesman Simon Bailey said the utility planned to remove two power poles and run the lines underground at the junction, but roadworks had started earlier.

‘The road widening commenced before Western Power was scheduled to underground the poles and power lines on the street,’ he said.

‘Relocation of Western Power equipment should be complete by the end of March, ahead of the agreed schedule.’
