Both Yanchep District High and Quinns Rocks Primary schools will get $20,000, while Merriwa Education Support Centre will receive $10,000.

Quinns Rocks Primary School principal John Nowicki said the school had recently built a playground in the early childhood area and would use the funds to replace one of its older playgrounds.

He said one playground had been there since the school was built 34 years ago.

North Metropolitan MLC Peter Katsambanis said the funding would help get more schoolchildren outside playing while being protected from the sun.

‘We want all children in our schools to be physically active during their breaks,’ he said.

‘This funding will give staff at these local schools the ability to plan and build playgrounds, including nature playgrounds where children can get their hands dirty.’
