SITE works started on the Quinns Mindarie Community Centre this month.
Broad Construction Services won the $3 million tender last month and expects to finish the extension to the Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club (QMSLSC) building in July 2017.
The project involves building a second storey extension on the existing club, featuring a multi-purpose facility with function hall, kitchen, meeting and training rooms, and a playground.
City of Wanneroo assets director Harminder Singh said the community centre would service QMSLSC, Quinns Rocks Fishing Club, local playgroups and be available for wider community use.
During construction, the surf club will relocate some of their operations, including equipment storage, to temporary sea containers.
Portofino’s Restaurant and the adjacent carpark will operate as normal.
A statement from the City emphasised that works related only to the community centre and not the adjacent caravan park site, which is due for redevelopment, but no timeline has been set.
