YANCHEP Bowling Club is bringing down the curtain on the most successful year in its history.

Bowling convenor Andrew Robertson said the club had excelled in nearly every field of competition it took part in.

“The ladies won their ‘colour’ division and subsequently will be promoted to the second division next season,” he said.

“The team narrowly lost the overall Metropolitan Division Pennant, which is a great effort in anyone’s standard.

“On the men’s side of the club’s activities, we sent 16 players to the state selection trials with quite a few of them well and truly making their mark and being noticed by the selectors.”

The Thursday men’s team has also been promoted to division two for next season after winning the division three pennant.

“The four of Leith Oldham, Mike Ritchie, John Edson and Shane Loftus completed the season without dropping a single game; a feat very rarely achieved,” Robertson said.

“The men’s division four Gold achieved a top four finish, which was another excellent achievement showing the progression of the club.”

Robertson also recognised the achievements of Loftus who was named Top Skipper in all divisions, was runner-up in the State Open Triples and won the State Pairs Championship with Oldham.

“It was the very first state championship for Yanchep and hopefully it will be the beginning of a lot more in the future,” Robertson said.
