Yanchep community group celebrates first Christmas together

MEMBERS of a Yanchep community group recently celebrated their first Christmas together.

Yanchep Connect founder Dyan Moore helped establish the group in mid-August and said more people were joining every week.

There are currently 34 members who enjoy a range of weekly activities including tai chi, a walking group, guest speakers and laughter yoga.

Ms Moore said this was followed by “chat time” and the emphasis was on helping women connect with each other.

“It’s a very supportive environment, there are some people who are recently widowed and things like this, and they’re getting their bonds going,” she said.

“I think it’s just giving them more of a sense that they’re not alone.”

She said it kept people active and encouraged them to try new things.

“I can see that they’re getting out there in the community,” she said.

“I encourage people who are lonely, or isolated, or have moved to the area then come and meet new people.

“I think that it’s important for people to do that.”

Yanchep Connect meets Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at Oldham Park clubrooms.

People can attend for a gold coin donation and new members are welcome.
