Yanchep conservation seeds take root for bushrangers

Twenty students from years 7 to 10 volunteer their time each week to develop their leadership skills and take part in conservation activities.

“The bushrangers have undertaken litter clean-ups in the local remnant bushland and at nearby Yanchep |Lagoon,” education assistant Carly Nasso said.

“They teamed up with the school’s green team environment group, made up of primary aged students.

“The green team meet every two weeks and have been actively involved in Earth Day activities, building |school recycling bins and planning to |re-establish the school vegie garden.”

Together they planted grass tree seedlings in the school’s bushland |areas.

“Whenever the bushrangers are out in public, people comment on how great it is to see young people showing concern for the environment.”

Bushranger instructors include Timothy Shaw, Judith Burchill and Dougal Patullo, while Sandra Gifford runs the green team.
