Yanchep couple the Chapples celebrate 60 years of marriage

YANCHEP residents Patricia (79, nee Smith) and Raymond (80) Chapple are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary today.

Daughter Michelle Russell said the couple met in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, in the UK in their late teens and married at St James Church on September 8, 1956.

“Ray, a Royal Air Force aircrew veteran of the Falklands, Korean and Gulf wars, joined the British air force aged 15 as an apprentice electrician,” she said. He spent his whole working life in the air force.

Pat originally worked as a secretary and in her 30s trained to became a psychiatric nurse.

Mrs Russell said her parents had lived in various places around the world over the years.

“When Ray retired from the air force they bought property in Spain, spending six months a year there and the other six months in the UK until they emigrated to Kingsley, Perth WA in the ’90s,” she said.

Now living at Bethanie Beachside in Yanchep, they have two sons, a daughter, 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
