Yanchep Lagoon cafe: City of Wanneroo names new operator on six-month lease

A HILLARYS cafe owner could be running the cafe at Yanchep Lagoon for six months from this summer.

The City of Wanneroo today announced the proposed new operator for the Brazier Road cafe for a six-month lease.

It has to advertise the proposal, and has invited public submissions until 4.30pm on October 24.

The City’s acting corporate strategy and performance director David Nicholson said the recommended lessee was Bernardo Alalid, who is the owner-operator of the Orion cafe at the Whitford City shopping centre.

“Subject to our analysis of any public submissions we anticipate the new operator to be ready for summer,” he said.

The City plans to carry out scheduled maintenance work on the building in coming weeks.

Last month, the council rejected all submissions for a long-term lease to do a strategic review of the Brazier Road site and building.

A report on that study is expected to form part of the mid-year budget review in January.

That decision prompted a public protest on the last day of trading for the previous tenants in late September.
