Yanchep Lagoon paths plan gets council tick

Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

A MASTERPLAN for trails and paths around Yanchep Lagoon was endorsed at the May 24 Wanneroo council meeting.

The plan covers about 8.85ha at Fisherman’s Hollow, Old Nursery Park and Picnic Cove, aiming to improve accessibility and provide pedestrian links.

Community consultation in early 2016 attracted five emailed submissions, which included suggestions for extra bins, creating a lookout area and removing a second trail from Newman Road.

The project is estimated to cost $1.47 million and be undertaken in stages through the 20-year capital works program.

It will include a 540m footpath from Yanchep Beach Road to Capricorn Esplanade, paths to the lookout behind the lagoon kiosk, extra showers and drink fountains and beach access from Picnic Cove.

At Monday’s Two Rocks Yanchep Residents’ Association meeting, councillor Linda Aitken said there would be more consultation during each stage and encouraged people to contribute to it.
