Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

THE Yanchep Lavender farm recently won an award for its lavender essential oil.

Owners Karla Champion and Gary Wood submitted oils from the first harvest of a crop planted on their Carabooda property, which used to be the Yanchep Turf Farm, to The Australian Lavender Growers Association (TALGA).

The University of Queensland assessed the submission and Yanchep Lavender won an award for its Lavandula x intermedia ‘Grosso’ at the 2017 TALGA conference in Queensland.

“Yanchep Lavender is the largest lavender farm in WA and is unique in the way that we grow, harvest, distil the oil and produce products on site,” Mr Wood said.

“The essential oil produced on site will be used in soaps, spray lotions, cleaning solutions, body creams, food, room atomizers.”
