THE Mermaid Community Theatre Club will be encouraging people to flick through its 20-year history in Two Rocks and Yanchep next month.

The club, formerly known as the Little Mermaid Theatre group, comes under the Atlantis Productions umbrella.

Ted Dowling started the group in 1998, and it has been involved in several community productions and events in a variety of venues, including Two Rocks Shopping Centre and the Phil Renkin Recreation Centre.

“It started with the blessing of the fleet,” Mr Dowling said.

“We were nomadic for many years, performing wherever until we opened the Little Mermaid Theatre in the Two Rocks Shopping Centre.

“In December 2015 the City of Wanneroo rewarded our endeavours with new theatre venue, which we christened with the major musical production Oliver and the first all-adult play What the Dickens!

To mark the 20th anniversary, the club will have a display to take people down memory lane at the Yanchep Two Rocks Community Recreation Association’s 40th celebrations on April 7.

Other past productions included the Punkerella Pantomine, Fantasy & Folklore at Fifty Fathoms, Fantastic Toyshop, Peter Pan, Castles and Cobwebs, The Hobbits, Hansel & Gretel – detention and several nativity plays.

It also created a maritime exhibition, which the group displayed at Two Rocks Shopping Centre for several years before shifting it to Shark Bay.

Mr Dowling said the club was working on productions for later this year, including a festival of one-act plays.

The ‘Flick thru the Mermaids’ Tales’ display will run from 11am to 4pm at the Phil Renkin Recreation Centre and theatre members will roam the market in period costumes.
