SPORTS clubs should be able to start using Yanchep’s long awaited playing fields next month, according to the City of Wanneroo.

Yanchep Redhawks Football Club, Yanchep Redhawks Cricket Club, Yanchep Junior Football Club, Yanchep United Soccer Club and Yanchep Little Athletics will use the facility north of Yanchep Beach Road.

At the Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association meeting in November, members were told the official opening would be in April, but clubs would have access from January.

The City’s community and place director Debbie Terelinck told the Times handover took place in November.

“The project is currently in what is referred to as the defects liability period,” she said.

“During this period, minor works may still be required however such work is yet to be identified.”

Mrs Terelinck said playground and shade sails installation would start this month and was expected to finish in March.

“It is anticipated that sporting clubs and the general public will be able to access the facility in early January,” she said.

“The City plans to host an official opening of the playing fields in autumn 2018 to allow user groups to settle in.”

The council approved a $5.5 million budget for the project, and the final cost is yet to be determined.
