Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

A POLICE car went up in flames in Yanchep on Friday evening.

About 5:50pm on May 27 police from Yanchep and the North West Metropolitan response team investigated reports of youths causing a disturbance on a bush track off Two Rocks Road.

“After completing the patrol, the vehicles returned to Two Rocks Road when the Yanchep officers observed flames underneath the response vehicle,” WA Police spokesman Adam Brouwer said.

“They stopped the vehicle and attempted to extinguish the fire but were unable to do so.

“The officers involved were unharmed and DFES attended to extinguish the fire.”

The cause of the fire was not believed to be suspicious, and Yanchep Sergeant Jason Macander said there would be a full review.

“Police vehicles were in the area patrolling for a group of approximately 20 juveniles (males and females) who were reportedly drinking alcohol and throwing empty cans at passing vehicles,” he said.

“Patrols were conducted but all youths ran from the scene without being apprehended.

“Patrols obviously stopped as a result of the vehicle fire.”
