ARCHITECTS have measured up Yanchep Police Station for future expansion, Sergeant Jason Macander says.
Speaking at a recent Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association meeting, Sgt Macander said an extension that would triple the station’s capacity was on the cards for next year. “Architects have been out for some extension works at Yanchep,” he said. “There’s still a lot of work to do.”
Sgt Macander said that while the proposed expansion did not mean an immediate increase in police numbers, it would help meet the demands of more people moving into the sub-district.
Despite the population growth, he said Yanchep’s crime rate for 2016 so far was down 27.8 per cent on the same period last year, and there had been a 16.7 per cent decrease in Two Rocks.
“We are looking at about just under 60 victims we don’t have comparing figures from last year to this year,” he said.
Sgt Macander said Eglinton’s crime rate was also 21.1 per cent lower, and in Alkimos there had been one more offence so far this year.
“My five suburbs combined – Alkimos, Carabooda, Eglinton, Two Rocks and Yanchep – is less than Butler’s crime,” he said.
“We don’t have big youth crime compared to other areas.”
The sergeant also said police were still receiving calls about people illegally driving golf buggies on public roads.
While WA Police’s September crime statistics were not available at the time of going to print, the August statistics showed Clarkson had the highest rate of crime among north coast suburbs.
Clarkson Police recently used the electronic noticeboard to remind residents to lock their homes and vehicles and not leave valuables visible in cars in a bid to reduce thefts from vehicles, particularly in Butler.
