YANCHEP Secondary College won multiple awards for its inaugural year in the Wakakirri performing arts event.
The event involved 235 schools and hundreds of primary and secondary students performing dance stories on August 7 and 8.
Yanchep’s dancers won the state award for ‘Junko’s Story’ as well as awards for excellent group dance, excellent staging, excellent performance teamwork and best minimal use of sets, props and costumes.

READ NOW“They demonstrated a considerable amount of resilience and were able to show what could be achieved with only seven sessions of practice,” teacher Sherree Gull said.
“The students are thrilled and proud of what they have achieved and worked so beautifully as a team helping each other out and supporting one another throughout the process.”
Junko’s Story is a true story about a 13-year-old schoolgirl living in Hiroshima during the 1945 bombing.
The regional winner will be nominated for Wakakirri’s story of the year award, which will be announced on Waka TV in October.
